Nanook Power provides steam-generated heat and electricity for base facilities and quarters and backup electrical power for Fort Richardson. The contract also requires operation and maintenance of an 8 million gallon cooling pond in conjunction with the Alaska State Fish and Wildlife Hatchery Manager. An A-76 conversion, this contract was a change from government to contractor operation involving a reduction in operational staff from 35 military personnel to 22 contractor employees. Despite the fact that hte previous civil service operators, mechanics, electricians, and electronics technicians to successfully operate the plant from Nanook Power's first day of operation. Nanook Power has little direct involvement with Base Supply, their support, operations, and maintenance are based on the same procedures required for a Base Supply. We provide for local purchasing, receiving, warehousing, inspection, and control of supply and equipment items. The equipment account (CA/ CRL) is the only interaction Nanook has with Base Supply.
They research new and replacement equipment , ordering on appropriate forms (AF Form 2005 or AF Form 601), monitor and track all requirements, identify excesses, process turn-ins, and provide for control of all items on the CA/ CRL. Although Nanook does not ahve bench stocks, it maintains shop stock to support the operations and maintenance of the Elmendorf CH&PP. It maintains a warehouse in conformance with Air Force standards. Designated locations are provided for all items; items are properly marked; and locations are maintained in our maintenance data collection computer system.
